Liturgy and prayer

In the Basilica of Monte Berico, the faithful find a liturgical space constantly animated by the Word of God, which resonates through the holy Masses celebrated throughout the week. Devotees visiting the sanctuary can participate in the numerous celebrations held both in the morning and in the afternoon, with some time variations during the winter (standard time) and summer (daylight saving time) periods.

On the threshold of the basilica, those entering are greeted by the revered image of Our Lady of Monte Berico, emblematic of the Marian protection that descends upon the people of God and every creature. The grand stone mantle of the ‘Mother of Mercy’ envelops eight figures—four men and four women. This symbolic number of fullness and completion signifies plenary protection ‘under her guardianship,’ as an ancient hymn sings.

Let us carry in our hearts the supplication to Our Lady of Monte Berico:

O Most Holy Virgin, Mother of God and my Mother Maria, I thank you for having deigned to appear on Monte Berico and for all the graces you bestow here upon those who turn to you. No one has ever prayed to you in vain. I also turn to you and beseech you for the Passion and Death of Jesus and for your sorrows: receive me, O Merciful Mother, under your mantle, which is a maternal cloak; grant me the special grace I ask for… and protect me from all evil, especially from sin, which is the greatest evil.

O Mary, my Mother, may I always enjoy your loving protection in life and even more so in death, and may I then come to see you in heaven, to thank and bless you forever. Amen.
